Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Dec. 3 that he and U.S. President Donald Trump had a “respectful and cordial” phone call roughly 10 days ago, suggesting the discussion could lead to diplomacy.
“If this call means steps are being taken toward a respectful dialogue between our countries, then dialogue is welcome, diplomacy is welcome,” Maduro said during a television address.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One on Nov. 30, Trump confirmed that he had spoken to Maduro but declined to offer further details.
“I don’t want to comment on it. The answer is yes,” the U.S. president said, later adding, “I wouldn’t say it went well or badly, it was a phone call.”…
