Kylin Software, a unit of state-owned China Electronics Corp, on Tuesday unveiled V11, the latest version of its operating system (OS) that features AI capabilities and extensive support for locally designed semiconductors.

V11 provided deep artificial intelligence integration that brought out a “smart and efficient” experience for office use, while delivering expanded compatibility with a range of Chinese-designed and developed integrated circuits, the company said during its product launch at the annual China Operating System Industry Conference held in Beijing.
Kylin’s OS partners in its expanded ecosystem include major domestic chip designers such as Hygon Information Technology and Loongson Technology; computer systems vendors China Greatwall Technology and Unicompute Technology; and software developers Kingsoft and ZWSoftware – providers of the local equivalent of Microsoft’s Office and AutoDesk’s AutoCAD, respectively.
The Kylin upgrade reflects growing efforts in China to foster greater tech self-sufficiency by building an advanced hardware and software ecosystem, as tensions between Beijing and Washington continue to escalate.
Microsoft’s Windows, however, continues to dominate China’s OS market, commanding nearly 81 per cent share as of July, according to data compiled by traffic analytics service StatCounter.
