Indonesian Lady Gaga fans heartbroken as religious hardliners blamed for snub

Heartbroken Lady Gaga fans in Indonesia have blamed religious hardliners for driving the American pop sensation away from Jakarta after the 14-time Grammy Award winner revealed that Singapore was the only regional stop of her tour.

The singer will perform at the city state’s National Stadium on May 18, 19, 21 and 24 as part of her “Mayhem” tour, which also includes concerts in Mexico and Brazil.

Music buffs in the Muslim-majority nation who faced similar disappointment more than a decade ago expressed their frustration and hoped to see the Born This Way star perform in Singapore.

“I’ll cry a lot if I can’t get the tickets. I’ve been waiting for a long time since 2012 when it was cancelled, I was one of the victims,” a fan said on Instagram.

Lady Gaga cancelled her concert in the Indonesian capital after conservative groups vehemently opposed the event, claiming her provocative clothing would corrupt the country’s youth.
