Top officials from China, the United States and Europe will meet at the Munich Security Conference to discuss US President Donald Trump’s vow to end the war in Ukraine by negotiating directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Further details on Trump’s thinking on Ukraine are expected to be revealed when Vice-President J.D. Vance takes the stage on Friday afternoon local time. According to an interview in The Wall Street Journal, Vance will tell Munich that the US will threaten military action and sanctions against Putin if he fails to negotiate “in good faith”.

“I think there is a deal that is going to come out of this that’s going to shock a lot of people,” Vance told the Journal.
