Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested more than 1,200 illegal immigrants across Georgia during a recent statewide operation, the agency said last week.
Of 1,226 illegal aliens who were arrested by ICE in the state, 720 were charged with or convicted of crimes in the United States, ICE said in a news release on Aug. 7. Five of those who were arrested were located at a local trucking company that ICE said was “known for employing” illegal immigrants.
The sting was titled “Operation Safe Community–Atlanta,” targeting people with criminal histories that include charges of crimes against children, aggravated assault, assault and battery, burglary, weapons crimes, drug crimes, sex crimes, lewd and lascivious acts, and driving while intoxicated, among others, according to the news release….
