Multiple people have been shot at a Mormon church in Michigan and the shooter is down, police said on Sunday.

The shooting took place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, about 80km (50 miles) north of Detroit, local police said in a social media post. The church was on fire.
Smoke was billowing from the building as firefighters sprayed the blaze with water while fire engines and emergency vehicles were parked nearby, footage on social media showed.
“There are multiple victims and the shooter is down. There is no threat to the public at this time. The church is actively on fire,” the Grand Blanc Township Police Department said in a post on Facebook, urging people to avoid the area.

The church, circled by a car park and a large lawn, is located near residential areas and a Jehovah’s Witness church in Grand Blanc. The community of roughly 8,000 people is just outside Flint.
