Hungry for savings? Hong Kong restaurants, shops offer July 1 anniversary deals

Hong Kong consumers can expect to enjoy deals and discounts at more than 8,800 stores and restaurants as part of celebrations to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the city’s return to Chinese rule on July 1, amid a sluggish economy.

The Hong Kong Catering Industry Association said more than 3,800 food and beverage establishments would provide discounts on the occasion, while the city’s Retail Management Association said 5,000 stores would kick off a two-month shopping festival on the same date.

The Post lists the offers and discounts.

1. Discounts at Hong Kong-style cha chaan tengs

  • Across all Tai Hing outlets, a 29 per cent discount will be offered at checkout.

  • Men Wah Bing Teng will offer a 29 per cent discount on its entire menu at all branches, except at the airport.

  • Golden Phoenix Restaurant will also offer a 29 per cent discount on the American Mixed Grill set at seven of its outlets.

2. Chinese teahouses and restaurants

  • All Forum Restaurants’ branches will slash 29 per cent off the July 1 banquet set from 6pm to 10pm next month.

  • Sportful Garden Restaurant will offer 29 per cent off certain items on its menu, available at all stores throughout the entire month of July.

  • Residents can enjoy a 29 per cent discount on the abalone set feast at Tao Heung, Tao Heung Tea House and Pier 88 in July.

  • Victoria Harbour Restaurant will be selling its signature goose dish with a 29 per cent discount on July 1.

3. Bakeries and dessert shops

  • Arome Bakery will sell red bean cake items with a 29 per cent discount at all branches on July 1.

  • Maxim’s Cakes will offer a 29 per cent discount on its egg rolls at selected outlets for the whole month of July.

  • Hung Fook Tong is offering more than 50 per cent off on some items at all branches on July 1 if customers purchase with e-payments.

  • Residents can purchase the Winter Melon Wife Cake gift box of eight pieces at Kee Wah Bakery for 29 per cent off at all its outlets except at the airport, from June 28 to July 4.

  • Hoi Tin Tong is selling a combo of turtle jelly products for HK$99 (US$12), originally priced at HK$160, at all branches on July 1.

  • Shiu Heung Yuen Bakery is offering 50 per cent off some walnut products at all outlets for a week starting on July 1.

4. What about fast food chains?

  • McDonald’s iced coconut milk latte will be on offer for HK$9.90 from July 1 to 7.

  • Customers can purchase a Portuguese egg tart for HK$7.10 by entering the discount code “71ET” in the KFC mobile app or electronic ordering machines at all branches on July 1.

  • Fairwood is offering 29 per cent off on its two-person winter melon seafood combo at all stores, selling at HK$99 from June 28 to July 4.

  • Cafe de Coral is also offering 29 per cent off on its two-person winter melon combo, at the same price, at all branches from June 28 to July 2.

  • At Maxim MX, customers can purchase the rice with chicken steak set at most of its outlets for 29 per cent off. The same discount is also being offered for the baked rice with pork chop in tomato sauce at most outlets of Maxim’s Food².

  • Pizza Hut will be giving out a serving of eight chicken wings for free when customers spend HK$200 or more eating in, or HK$150 on takeaway, throughout July and August.

  • From July 1 to August 31, PHD is offering a free Hawaii Island medium pizza for free, for orders of HK$180 or more.

5. What are retailers offering?

More than 5,000 stores from more than 180 brands will participate in the third Hong Kong Shopping Festival, running from July to August to celebrate the Hong Kong Summer Viva campaign, organised by the city’s tourism board.

Hong Kong Retail Management Association chairwoman Annie Tse Yau On-yee said that the festival will offer more than HK$1.9 billion worth of discounts and gifts to boost spending, compared with HK$1.5 billion last year.

Retailers such as ParknShop, Watsons, Mannings, Fortress, and more will be offering various discounts.

On July 1, Circle K is offering 29 per cent off on its fresh juice, while 7-Eleven is selling desserts and baked items for 12 per cent off.
