According to data from the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management, there were 7 major fires caused by electric bikes nationwide in 2019, and 11 in 2020. In 2021, this number surged to nearly 18,000 incidents, with 57 deaths. In 2022, reported electric bike fires reached 18,000, and in 2023, the number increased to 21,000, a 17.4 percent rise compared to 2022.
