The three “AI solid-state drive (SSD)” products – OceanDisk EX 560, OceanDisk SP 560 and OceanDisk LC 560 – are aimed at solving bottlenecks faced by data centres in AI training and inference, including slow inference speed and limited data capacity, the company said at a launch event in Shanghai on Wednesday.
SSD is a type of solid-state storage device that uses integrated circuits to house data on a non-volatile medium that remains accessible for long-term use. Huawei said it was the first company to define the concept of “AI SSD”, meaning the products are designed to solve the data storage issues in AI computing.
At the event, Huawei said it would work with several partners, including the Data Storage Committee of the China Electronics Standardisation Association and the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, to launch an “AI SSD Innovation Alliance”, which will push for industry collaboration and innovation.
The move is the latest sign that the Shenzhen-based tech giant is doubling down on its efforts to develop a comprehensive ecosystem in AI technology, amid surging demand for related services and a US-China tech war.
