House Speaker Mike Johnson Warns Military Pay Will Run Out Amid Shutdown

As the government shutdown exceeds the two-week mark, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has warned that military pay may run out and that servicemembers could miss their next paycheck later this month.
“If it weren’t for the bold leadership of President [Donald] Trump helping us to protect our military, everyone needs to understand that 1.3 million active duty servicemembers would be missing a paycheck,” Johnson told reporters at a press conference on Oct. 15. “They’ll get their check, thankfully, because President Trump has shown strong leadership.”
Members of the military were due to get paid on Oct. 15 after the Trump administration announced it would shift funding from other programs in order to do so. Their next pay date is Oct. 31, according to a schedule released by the Defense Department….
