A 73-year-old Hong Kong man in a wheelchair has narrowly escaped death after accidentally reversing off a train platform and falling onto tracks in the New Territories.
The man was waiting for a train at Tai Hing (North) light rail stop on Tai Fong Street in Tuen Mun at around 5.30am on Monday when he tumbled onto the tracks along with his wheelchair, a source familiar with the matter said.
According to a police spokeswoman, the man was discovered by a passer-by who called police.
The man sustained head injuries and was transported to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment after he was rescued from the tracks by emergency personnel, she said.
The insider said: “The victim told officers it was an accident and that he had no intention of committing suicide.”
The light rail service was disrupted for about five minutes, according to police.
