Writing in a Chinese-language newspaper on Tuesday, Jacob Kam Chak-pui, CEO of the MTR Corporation, pledged that the railway operator would actively cooperate with the government’s arrangements for the election to encourage and support residents in casting their votes.
“In response to the extended polling hours this time, the MTR will run its first train services earlier on election day to facilitate the preparation work of polling station staff,” he said.
“We are also utilising in-station advertising light boxes and some entry and exit gates to display election reminders.”
Kam added that the MTR would also assist registered voters based in mainland China to travel to border polling stations.

The Legco race will be the second to be held under Beijing’s “patriots-only” electoral system. The government has launched an extensive campaign to boost voter turnout after the previous election recorded a historic low of 30.2 per cent.
