The airline also announced that all remaining flights scheduled to fly to Hong Kong from the airport in London for that day had been cancelled.
According to the Airport Authority’s website, six flights from Hong Kong to Heathrow were originally scheduled for Friday. Five of them are operated by Cathay Pacific and the other one is run by British Airways.
A Cathay spokesman said the airline had cancelled flights CX239 and CX253, which had been scheduled to depart the city at 10.35am and 1.30pm (both Hong Kong time), respectively.
The Post learned that CX257, which departed for Heathrow at 8.10am, was now returning to Hong Kong and CX255 had been diverted to Amsterdam.

The Post has reached out to Hong Kong’s Airport Authority for confirmation and further details.
“We are assessing the situation and will keep our customers informed with the latest updates,” the Cathay spokesman said, adding that customers could check for more details on the company’s website.
