Police said on Saturday the 41-year-old man lost consciousness after he was crushed by the cage lift while trying to move items at the site of Pavilia Farm III at 1.30pm.

Part of his body was crushed by the iron frame of the cage when it fell on him, leaving him unconscious.

Police said preliminary investigations showed the cage lift suddenly malfunctioned before it fell, trapping the man on the ground as he was transporting materials.

Rescuers who arrived at the scene rushed the worker to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for emergency treatment, but he was pronounced dead at 2.25pm.
