The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau said on Thursday night Wong had asked to resign for personal reasons, and it had agreed.

Wong succeeded Yeung Tak-keung on August 22 last year and will now step down on September 20. His term was reportedly three years.

“[The bureau] would like to thank Mr Wong for his contribution towards promotion of sports policies and sports development of Hong Kong in the past year and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours and that he would continue to contribute to the sports sector of Hong Kong,” the bureau said.

Wong is a former wind surfing medallist married to Lee Lai-shan, who won Hong Kong’s first Olympic gold in the same sport.
