Hong Kong celebrity Kelly Chen Wai-lam has raised over HK$3 million (US$386,000) by selling 10 Hermes bags from her collection at an auction, with part of the proceeds going to her charity and the most expensive of the lot going for HK$780,000 (US$100,000).

A Post search of Sotheby’s records of its auction on Thursday showed that all 10 bags from the singer’s personal collection had been sold within estimates, with a white matt Niloticus crocodile Himalaya Birkin 30cm bag with palladium hardware, dating back to 2009, fetching the highest price.
Sotheby’s said part of the proceeds from the sale of the bags will be donated to the Kelly Chen Children Education Fund, which was founded by the singer-actress in 2002 to subsidise students from low-income families.
“Kelly would also like to express her gratitude to all buyers for their contributions to the Kelly Chen Children Education Fund,” a spokeswoman from Sotheby’s told the Post on Thursday, without disclosing the amount that would go to the charity.
The auction followed a charitable sale Chen organised last April, when she raised funds from sales of her handbags and clothing, as well as cradles used by her two sons and pre-owned children’s clothes.

Chen had previously also raised over HK$1 million from another auction of her bags and clothes in 2017.
