Hong Kong set for heavy showers and thunderstorms on Monday morning

Hongkongers should brace for heavy showers and thunderstorms on Monday morning, with the unsettled weather to persist until Thursday, according to the forecaster.

The Observatory said on Sunday the weather would improve later in the week, as the rain eased off gradually and the mercury climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91.4 Fahrenheit) over the weekend.

A trough of low pressure would continue to bring showers and squally thunderstorms to the coast of southern China and the northern part of the South China Sea in the next couple of days, it said.

Monday would be “mainly cloudy with occasional showers and a few squally thunderstorms”, it said, adding that “showers will be heavy at times” in the morning.

The temperature will range between 26 and 30 degrees.

The unsettled weather would persist until Thursday when sunny intervals were expected.

On Friday and Saturday, conditions were expected to further improve with sunny periods and isolated showers, and the temperature ranging between 28 and 33 degrees.

The sunny periods and high temperature would continue until early next week, it said.
