The 43-year-old man left his home at Tsui Ping (South) Estate in Kwun Tong for a hike on Saturday. His family alerted the force at about 8am on Sunday after he failed to return, a source said.
Search and rescue teams found the man caught among trees in the Kau Keng Shan area within Tai Lam Country Park at around 1pm, where he was confirmed dead at the scene.
A Government Flying Service helicopter was deployed to recover his body.
The man, who was understood to have more than 10 years of experience tackling challenging terrain and often climbed alone, had told his mother about the trip before setting out at 10am on Saturday morning and also posted photos about his trek on Facebook, the source said.
