A passer-by discovered the dog, measuring about 30cm (12 inches), unharmed inside a bin at a bus stop near Flora Garden condominium on Cloud View Road at around 8am on Tuesday, and promptly called the police.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was also informed. Staff examined the dog and took it back to the SPCA’s facilities in Tsing Yi for further care.

A spokeswoman said the dog had not been tagged with a microchip.

The SPCA said it strongly condemned the cruel treatment of the poodle and urged the public not to abandon pets on the streets, which is a crime.
