Hong Kong police seek store worker over alleged assault on suspected thief

Hong Kong police are searching for a woman believed to be a convenience store worker who allegedly assaulted a man suspected of shoplifting.

The force said on Monday that it was looking for a woman in her fifties in connection with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, after she allegedly beat a man with a stick over a suspected theft.

The victim, a 47-year-old man surnamed Wong, was found on Monday morning bleeding on a street in Wan Chai.

Police said Wong was discovered near the intersection of Jaffe Road and Fenwick Street, with injuries to his forehead and nose. He was later taken to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.

According to a police spokesman, Wong told officers he had “wanted to steal things from someone’s shop” before he was assaulted.

Investigators believe the woman used a stick to beat Wong.
