Police said that the 18-year-old suspect escaped from the hospital in Sheung Shui at around 5.45pm on Monday. He had been admitted last Saturday after his arrest for drug trafficking and various driving offences.

A source familiar with the matter identified the suspect as Forest Tang, allegedly an active member of the local triad Shing Wo in Yuen Long.

Tang was arrested last Saturday for trafficking etomidate cartridges, cocaine, ketamine, cannabis buds and methamphetamine with a total value of HK$90,000 (US$11,564), alongside a 22-year-old man. The pair were discovered by patrolling officers as they attempted to get into another car after crashing into a pillar.

The force described Tang as about 1.75 metres tall, with a slim build and short brown hair. When fleeing the hospital, he wore black and white checkered trousers, black trainers and was holding a purple patient’s shirt.

“The police are highly concerned about the case, with the crime squad of the border police district investigating the matter,” a police spokesman said.
