Hong Kong police hunt for man who allegedly robbed convenience store, stole taxi

Hong Kong police are searching for a man in his 30s, described as non-Chinese and clad in a trash bag, after he allegedly robbed a convenience store in Tin Shui Wai before stealing a taxi, the Post has learned.

Police first received a report of the suspect robbing the convenience store with a beef knife during the early hours of Friday, according to a source familiar with the case.

A subsequent report was filed about a taxi being allegedly stolen by the same suspect, the source added.

The first victim was a 52-year-old convenience store worker, while the second was a 44-year-old taxi driver.

The suspect is understood to be a non-Chinese man aged between 30 and 40, with a slim frame and a height of around 1.7 metres (5 feet 7 inches). He was described as wearing black clothes and having a black trash bag covering his upper body.

“Police received a report by the first victim, who said that she was threatened by the suspect with a beef knife about 25cm to 35cm [9.8 to 13.8 inches] long and asked to hand over cash. The suspect stole about HK$1,000 [US$127] in cash and six packs of cigarettes and then fled the scene,” the insider said.
