Hong Kong police hunt for helper who allegedly assaulted cancer patient, 81

Hong Kong police are searching for a foreign domestic helper after security footage showed her trying to stuff a towel into an elderly woman’s mouth and restraining her in a flat in Sham Shui Po.

In a sped-up 13-minute clip, the maid was seen attempting to wrap the elderly woman’s hands with a towel and tie them with a rope repeatedly before finally succeeding. The woman resisted throughout.

The maid was also seen forcefully flipping the woman. Both sides appeared to exchange words throughout the struggle.

Security footage circulating online showed the helper, who is from Indonesia, using a yoga rope to tie both hands of a struggling, bedridden 81-year-old woman.

The person who posted the clip on social media said the victim was her mother and that the elderly woman suffered from lymphoma.

A police spokesman said the daughter, aged 55, reported the incident on Tuesday, saying her mother was assaulted by the helper a day earlier, when she was tied up in their home at Lai Tak House in Lai On Estate.
