The family of the missing man, identified as Yan Gan by police, also made an appeal online on Tuesday.
Police published two photos of Yan, with one showing him hiking in a blue shirt and jeans and carrying a black backpack. The force said he was last seen around noon on Sunday at Pak Lap Wan. Police received a report about him later that day.
Yan is described as being about 1.7 metres tall, weighing 75kg and of medium build. He also has short black hair. When last seen, he was wearing a dark-coloured swimming suit, an orange life jacket and a blue cap.
According to authorities, Yan had rented a kayak from a company in Pak Lap Wan at 12pm on Sunday and might have planned to paddle to the remote and scenic Po Pin Chau. He told staff that he would return the kayak by 4.30pm.
