Hong Kong police arrest off-duty officer after elderly man knocked down by car

Hong Kong police have opened an investigation after a driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle and knocked down an elderly man in Yuen Long.

Police said on Saturday they received a report at about 2.23pm of a private vehicle near the junction of Tai Kiu Road and Yuen Long On Lok Road that had apparently lost control and crashed into a man in his seventies.

Emergency personnel were deployed to the scene and the man was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in an unconscious state, the force said. Information about the driver was not immediately available.

Images from the scene show a white Porsche with damage to its front after appearing to have crashed through a barricade while making a turn.

Police said an investigation into the accident was still under way.
