Hong Kong police arrest man, 71, for alleged attack on 2 others over smoking dispute

Hong Kong police have arrested a 71-year-old man for attacking a woman and her son with a water bottle following a dispute over smoking.

The 58-year-old mother called police at about 8.30am on Saturday, reporting that the man had poured water on her and used a water bottle to attack her 29-year-old son at a pedestrian tunnel at Che Kung Miu Road in Tai Wai.

According to the force, the mother and son had complained about the 71-year-old man smoking inside the tunnel.

“They had a dispute, and the arrestee made the attack,” police said.

The son sustained an injury to his head and was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin for treatment.

The elderly man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.
