Hong Kong police arrest drunk passenger for alleged assault on taxi driver

Hong Kong police have arrested a 54-year-old man who allegedly punched a taxi driver, forcing the latter to stop his vehicle midway through the ride.

The force said it received a call for help from a 64-year-old cabby at 11.47pm on Thursday, saying he was punched by a passenger during a ride from North Point to Tseung Kwan O.

The driver was forced to stop his vehicle, but the alleged assault continued. The passenger also allegedly damaged the taxi.

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the 54-year-old suspect for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage.

The driver, who suffered injuries on his forehead with his glasses damaged, was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment, together with the suspect, who appeared to be drunk.
