One of Hong Kong’s giant panda cubs has sustained a minor eyelid injury while playing “too energetically” with her sibling, as caretakers from Ocean Park assure the public she is recovering well.

The park revealed late on Monday night that the right eyelid of the almost seven-month-old “Elder Sister” had turned red.
“Rest assured, the caretakers have been closely monitoring her condition. After a thorough examination, it was discovered that her eyelid was injured, possibly due to the siblings playing a bit too energetically,” the park said in a post on Instagram.

In a video, Ocean Park noted that the injury had healed well and that there was no longer a need to administer eye drops to Elder Sister. However, her third eyelid flap – a structure that supports a weakened cornea and protects the eye surface – remained visible.
The veterinary team confirmed that the injury would not affect her eyesight and said they would continue to monitor her condition closely.
“Scrapes, bumps, and bruises – they are just part of growing up,” said Matt Leung, assistant curator of the park’s zoological operations.

Social media users expressed their gratitude for the team’s care and transparency in the comments section, noting that a small injury was simply part of the panda’s journey towards adulthood.
