Hong Kong police have arrested a minibus driver on suspicion of drug and dangerous driving after a collision left an 82-year-old man dead.

The force said on Tuesday that the minibus allegedly knocked down the elderly man who was crossing the road at the junction of Sui Wo Road and Lai Wo Lane in Fo Tan at 6.45pm the previous day.
The pedestrian sustained head injuries and was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin, where he was declared dead at 9.08pm.
The driver, 69, was arrested over dangerous driving causing death and drug driving after failing a rapid oral fluid test. He remained in police custody as of midnight, according to the force.
An investigation into the incident is under way, with police urging witnesses to contact officers at 3661 1346.

Those convicted of dangerous driving face a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of HK$50,000 (US$6,400). Driving under the influence of drugs carries a maximum penalty of three years in jail and a fine of HK$25,000.
