Leading a 50-strong delegation of business leaders and entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and mainland China, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said Kuwait held significant potential for enhanced cooperation with the city.
Lee started his visit in the morning with a meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and crown prince Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, as well as acting prime minister Fahad Yousuf Saud Al-Sabah.
“We will meet local officials, hold round table discussions, visit local enterprises and cultural facilities, and sign multiple memorandum of understanding to promote trade, investment and strengthen connections in areas such as capital markets and financial services between the two places,” Lee said on social media after landing in Kuwait on Monday night.
He was received by the Chinese ambassador to Kuwait Zhang Jianwei and adviser in the prime minister’s office, Sheikh Dr Basil Al-Sabah, at Kuwait International Airport.

Lee said the city’s professional legal services, talent, and finance could aid Kuwait’s vision to become a regional financial and trade hub by 2035.
