Hong Kong issues T3 as Severe Tropical Storm Matmo edges closer

Hong Kong’s weather forecaster will issue the No 3 typhoon signal between noon and 2pm on Saturday as severe tropical storm Matmo is edging closer to the city.

Education authorities also announced that classes for kindergartens and schools for children with physical and intellectual disabilities are suspended after noon.

“In the past few hours, Matmo moved steadily across the central and northern parts of the South China Sea. With Matmo edging closer, local winds will strengthen gradually later [on Saturday],” the Hong Kong Observatory said.

It added that the city’s weather would become cloudy with a few squally showers and thunderstorms later in the day.

According to the forecast, Matmo is expected to intensify progressively and edge closer to the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula.
