Hongkongers should avoid visiting Iran and Israel because of the “highly unpredictable security situation” in the two warring countries, authorities have warned, raising their outbound travel alert to its highest level.

A Security Bureau spokesman said on Thursday that it had upgraded the alert for Israel and Iran to “black”, meaning there was a “severe threat” in going to those places and all travel should be avoided.
“Due to the highly unpredictable security situation in Israel and Iran, the Hong Kong government advises Hong Kong residents to avoid all travel to Israel and Iran,” he said.
“Those already there should attend to personal safety and leave or relocate to relatively safe regions immediately.”
He added the bureau would continue to closely monitor the situation and urged Hongkongers to pay attention to updates, including announcements made by local authorities and Chinese embassies.
