Hong Kong Island’s 13km (8-mile) promenade will be fully connected after 16 years of planning and construction, with the last section of the boardwalk in North Point to open to the public on Monday.
The Development Bureau said on Sunday that the eastern section of the East Coast Boardwalk, spanning 1.1km from the North Point Promenade to Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay, features a glass observatory deck and open spaces.
“[It marks] the last kilometre to connect the approximately 13-kilometre-long harbourfront on Hong Kong Island, from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan, fulfilling one of the visions of harbourfront developments,” the bureau said.

The promenade section not only offers a dedicated pedestrian walkway but also a shared path for visitors engaging in different activities, such as strolling, jogging and cycling. Pet lovers can also bring their leashed animals to the harbourfront.
A highlight of the new section is a glass observatory deck, where visitors can view the harbour beneath the boardwalk from 10am to 6pm daily. The facility will be temporarily closed during adverse weather, and visitors must wear shoe covers provided on site for safety and protection of the glass surface.
The section’s pet-friendly zone with facilities is located near Tin Chiu Street in North Point, with authorities expecting kiosks and multi-purpose spaces to be set up in the area in the first quarter of next year.
