Officers of the Customs and Excise Department revealed on Tuesday that they inspected a suspicious container that was set to be carried from Hong Kong to Singapore via an ocean-going vessel earlier this month.
“Customs inspected the container that was declared as carrying two private cars and 240 pieces of electronic products on March 16,” the department said.
“Upon examination, customs officers found a large batch of suspected smuggled goods, including refrigerators, tablets, mobile phones and clothing, in the container. Additionally, the quantity of electronic products seized exceeded the declared quantity.”
The seized goods were estimated to have a market value of about HK$10 million.

Customs said investigations were ongoing and did not rule out the possibility of making further arrests.
