Some of Hong Kong’s biggest names in classical music are coming together to raise funds for the family of the firefighter who died in the Tai Po fire.
The concert, titled “Salute to the Brave, Soothing the Soul” and co-organised by the violinist and conductor Leung Kin-fung, will be held on December 22 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Firefighter Ho Wai-ho, 37, died in the line of duty in Wang Fuk Court. The worst blaze in Hong Kong in more than 70 years killed more than 160 people and injured dozens, including 12 other firefighters.

All proceeds from sales of the concert tickets, which are priced from HK$100 (US$12.90) to HK$400, will be donated to Ho’s family.
“When words fail, music speaks,” said Leung, who is first associate concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Hong Kong composer Chan Wing-wah will conduct a 300-strong choir assembled from various local groups belonging to the Hong Kong Association of Choral Societies, including the Hong Kong Police Choir. They will perform a movement from Chan’s piece This Boundless Land, accompanied by an ensemble including an erhu player from Wang Fuk Court.
