Hong Kong’s Observatory cancelled all typhoon warnings on Saturday morning as Tropical Depression Mitag moved further away from the city.

However, the weather could worsen next week with the possible arrival of Tropical Storm Ragasa, which is expected to strengthen into a super typhoon.

At 10.40am, the forecaster downgraded the typhoon warning to the No 1 standby signal, which had been issued at 9.20am, replacing the previous No 3 strong wind signal.

The No 3 warning was originally issued on Friday morning.

“At 11am, Tropical Depression Mitag was centred about 140km (87 miles) north-northwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest slowly across the vicinity of the northern part of the Pearl River Estuary,” the observatory said.
