Hong Kong has cancelled the No 1 typhoon signal as tropical storm Prapiroon continued to move away from the city.

The Hong Kong Observatory said the standby typhoon signal, which was raised at 10.40pm on Saturday, was cancelled at 12.20pm on Monday.

At around noon, Prapiroon was estimated to be 610km (380 miles) west-southwest of Hong Kong and was expected to move northwest at about 10km/h (6mph) crossing Beibu Wan near southern China.

Despite the signal cancellation, a few squally showers are still expected locally and winds will still be occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.

Residents are advised to stay away from shorelines and remain alert.
