Hong Kong bus driver arrested over death of passenger, 92, found unconscious in vehicle

A driver of a residential estate shuttle bus in Hong Kong has been arrested for careless driving, after an elderly passenger was found unconscious on board following an abrupt stop and later declared dead.

The force said on Saturday that the victim, a 92-year-old surnamed Yooh, was found slumped in his seat on the bus and was rushed to Tin Shui Wai Hospital before medical staff certified his death at 11.15am.

The fatal traffic incident occurred at about 10.30am as the shuttle bus was travelling on Tin Lung Road towards Tin Shing Road in Tin Shui Wai, police said.

The vehicle crossed lanes and stopped “abruptly” before a traffic light when the it approached Tin Kwai Road, the force added.

Yooh was later discovered on his seat without any “superficial” injuries.

According to a police source, Yooh has a health condition.

The driver, a 64-year-old man surnamed Fung, was later arrested for careless driving.

Police have appealed to those who witnessed the accident or have any information about the case to contact them at 3661 3800.
