Hong Kong asked to layer up as temperature set to dip to 14 degrees by Wednesday

Hong Kong’s forecaster has reminded the public to stay warm as a cold front is due to hit the city on Tuesday, adding it expected about nine to 17 days when temperatures will dip below 12 degrees Celsius (54 Fahrenheit) this winter.

The Observatory said on Monday the cold front was expected to move across the coast of Guangdong province in mainland China at around midnight, driving down the mercury from Tuesday.

The minimum temperature would be about 14 degrees in urban areas on Wednesday and Thursday, and it would also be cold over parts of the New Territories, the forecaster said.

“Under the influence of the associated intense northeast monsoon and a broad band of clouds, it will be windy and appreciably cooler over the region in the next couple of days,” it said.

The broad band of clouds is expected to thin out in the latter part of the week, and the weather should remain fine and dry in the coming week.
