Government Shutdown Deal ‘Coming Together,’ Thune Says

A proposal to end the 40-day government shutdown is developing on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters Sunday.
“A deal is coming together,” Thune said outside the Senate chamber before he walked in to open the day’s session.
However, Thune cautioned that many parts of the deal remain in motion, and he said there are no guarantees of passage. Specific details about the nature of the compromise being considered weren’t revealed.
“We’ll see where the votes are,” Thune said.
Thune’s comments come as the government shutdown that began on Oct. 1 reached its 40th day—making it the longest government shutdown in U.S. history….
