Florida Governor Calls April Special Session to Redraw Congressional Maps

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Jan. 7 announced that he plans to join the other states locked in a redistricting battle in an attempt to gain more Republican congressional seats in the 2026 midterms.
DeSantis called a special session for April for the Sunshine State’s GOP-controlled Legislature to draw new U.S. House districts.
While Florida begins its 2026 legislative session next week, the governor said he is giving additional time for a potential ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the Voting Rights Act in the case Louisiana v. Callais.
Depending on how the high court rules, it could impact the constitutionality of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination in voting systems, including in the drawing of congressional districts….
