Authorities said the blaze was still burning as of 9.30pm.
The Fire Services Department said the fire broke out at 2.49pm near Tai Tong in Yuen Long, with police also receiving several reports around the same time from residents. The Government Flying Service dispatched at least one helicopter to the area.
One patch of the blaze stretched about 50 metres, while another was roughly 200 metres long.
“Members of the public are advised to leave the area affected by the fire as soon as possible,” the department said. “Hikers and campers are advised to stay calm.”
It added the burning of wild grass was the suspected cause of the fire.
