Ferry services suspended as T3 remains in force in Hong Kong for rest of Sunday

Some after-school classes and ferry services have been suspended in Hong Kong after the Observatory issued the No 3 typhoon signal, which it said would remain in force for the rest of Sunday.

The forecaster issued the No 3 signal at 2.40am on Sunday, as Tropical Storm Tapah moved closer to Hong Kong and intensified. The storm was expected to skirt about 200km (124 miles) southwest of the city on Monday morning.

“In the past couple of hours, Tapah started to track north-northwestwards. With Tapah edging closer, local winds will strengthen progressively,” the Observatory said.

Kindergarten classes, as well as schools for children with physical and intellectual disabilities, were suspended on Sunday due to the storm.

Meanwhile, a number of ferry services either had their hours adjusted or were suspended on Sunday.
