Employee at Hong Kong care home for mentally disabled charged with rape

A staff member at a care home run by the Hong Chi Association, Hong Kong’s largest non-governmental organisation serving people with mental disabilities, has been charged with sexually assaulting two residents.

The alleged attacks on a male and a female took place in August but were only made public when the association and the Social Welfare Department revealed the case in separate statements on Wednesday evening.

The association said an investigation was launched after a parent asked about an injury her daughter suffered in August.

It was suspected that two residents were harmed and a staff member was involved, the NGO said.

“As the employee was in serious breach of the association’s code of conduct, we terminated his employment,” it said.

The case was reported to both police and the Social Welfare Department.

A source familiar with the case said the suspect, 38, was accused of raping a 21-year-old woman and sexually assaulting a 20-year-old man.
