Police said they received a call from the son at around 4.45pm, telling officers his father had collapsed while they were walking along the Sheung Yiu trail in the Sai Kung East Country Park.

Authorities dispatched police and firefighters to the scene, while a Government Flying Service helicopter was brought in to airlift the victim to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan.

“The victim was already in an unconscious state when being picked up by helicopter,” a police spokesman said.

The elderly man, who was in his seventies, was certified dead at about 5.52pm despite emergency treatment, police said.
