Earlier this year, a story circulated online claiming that Egypt was purchasing 40 J-10CE fighter jets, and that the first batch had already been delivered. The news was widely shared, even picked up by Al Jazeera. Some social media accounts even created 3D simulations of the delivery ceremony, complete with jets roaring and cannons firing, making it seem like the real deal. But on February 27, China’s Ministry of Defense spokesperson Wu Qian quickly shut it down, calling it “completely fake news.”
