In the Western Pacific’s first island chain, just 20 kilometers south of Japan’s Kagoshima, lies the island of Maheshima. This small, uninhabited island is now brightly lit, almost like daylight. The main runway is already completed, while construction on a parallel runway is progressing rapidly. A long pier extends from the shore, capable of handling large warships and supply vessels. To meet the tight deadline of March 2030, construction continues day and night, even on weekends.
