Din Tai Fung Exits China, Shuts 14 North China Stores; Nearly 30,000 Noodle Shops Close In Half-Year

Din Tai Fung has closed 14 stores in North China. Those who have dined there know that this is a Taiwanese brand with 32 locations in Mainland China. Their signature dish is the Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, priced at 100 yuan for ten pieces. A serving of egg fried rice can sell for 80 yuan, with an additional 10% service charge. The average per capita spending is around 150 yuan. The reason for the closures is a loss of over 40 million yuan, with about 40% of their foreign clientele not returning.
