A day before a key Senate committee was set to vote on President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Todd Blanche, a Republican senator on July 29 said he was withholding his support.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) canceled a meeting with Blanche scheduled for Wednesday and told reporters that he was “not prepared” to vote for Blanche.
Without support from all Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, including Cornyn, Blanche’s nomination would be poised to fail.
The committee is scheduled to vote on July 30 to send Blanche’s nomination to the full Senate. Without Cornyn’s support, the committee might postpone the vote; as of Wednesday evening, the status of that vote was unclear….
