After joining Qiming in 2006, Leung made it one of the first firms to invest in the healthcare and biotech sectors in China. Her investments include Chinese drug firm Gan & Lee, maker of heart valve replacements Venus MedTech and New Horizon Health.

Qiming and Leung initiated a leadership transition plan in November to ensure a smooth succession, the firm said in a statement on its website. As part of that plan, William Hu, managing partner, and Kan Chen, partner, have taken on leadership roles in Qiming’s healthcare investments following Leung’s departure, it said.

“After 19 years at Qiming, I have decided to embark on a new chapter,” Leung said in the same statement. “While I plan to take some time to recharge, my passion for supporting innovation, entrepreneurs and scientists remains as strong as ever.”

Neither Qiming nor Leung disclosed the reason for her departure, and neither responded to the Post’s inquiries.
